Overview of processing

Processed data types

  • Content data (reader and configuration data read from the device)
  • Meta and connection data (only in the event of an error, see section “Error diagnostics (Sentry)”)

Categories of affected persons

  • App users (persons who use Mobile Maintainer to service and diagnose BALTECH readers)

Purposes of the processing

  • Provision of the app’s functionality as well as error analysis and further development of the app.

Relevant legal bases

Insofar as personal data is processed (error diagnostics, see below), this is done on the basis of Art. 6(1) sentence 1 lit. f GDPR (legitimate interests in a functional and error-free app). In addition, German regulations such as the Federal Data Protection Act (BDSG) apply.

Mobile Maintainer app

Mobile Maintainer does not have a user account, a login, or its own server connection. The app does not analyze user behavior, does not collect usage statistics, and does not display advertising.

Mobile Maintainer uses NFC to read data from BALTECH readers (including serial number, firmware version, configuration) and opens configuration and firmware files (BEC2/BF3 format) stored locally on the device. This data remains exclusively on the user’s smartphone or tablet and is not transmitted to BALTECH or third parties. This is technical device data of the readers, not personal data of the app user.

For diagnostic purposes, the app creates local log files. These are not transmitted automatically; they are only sent when the user actively sends an e-mail with a log attachment as part of a support request (see section “Support requests”).

Required device permissions:

  • NFC (reading reader data)

Error diagnostics (Sentry)

Unexpected application crashes are automatically reported via the third-party service Sentry.

In the event of an error, crash reports, performance data, as well as the device model and operating system version are transmitted to BALTECH. BALTECH does not store IP addresses nor link the data to the user’s identity. The user is not tracked.

Further information on data processing by Sentry: https://sentry.io/privacy/

Support requests

If a user needs support, they can use the app to prepare an e-mail to support@baltech.de. The e-mail is sent via the user’s own e-mail program installed on the device – Mobile Maintainer itself does not send any data. The pre-filled e-mail may contain reader and app information as well as, if applicable, the locally created log file. The user sees the complete content of the e-mail before sending, can edit it, or cancel the sending process.

Obtaining the app via app stores

Obtaining the app via the Apple App Store and Google Play is additionally subject to their respective privacy policies:

Deletion of data

Data stored locally on the device (including log files, and reader and configuration data that has been read) remains exclusively on the user’s device and is deleted when the app is uninstalled or by the user themselves. Diagnostic data transmitted via Sentry is processed in accordance with Sentry’s deletion periods.

Amendment and updating of the privacy policy

BALTECH will update this privacy policy in the event of changes to data processing. The current version is always available here or in the respective app store listing.

Rights of the data subjects

Under the GDPR (Art. 15–21), data subjects have the following rights:

  • Right to object to processing pursuant to Art. 6(1) lit. e or f GDPR
  • Right to withdraw consent for consent given
  • Right of access to processed data
  • Right to rectification of inaccurate or incomplete data
  • Right to erasure and restriction of processing
  • Right to data portability in a structured, machine-readable format
  • Right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority
